Retrofit projects can have several objectives, such as meeting new national standards (safety, environment or quality), preservation of productive capacity, increased productivity, and others. These objectives are achieved through the replacement of equipment damaged by fatigue.
In this case, the Boiler Retrofit Project had the objective of increasing the boiler’s productivity, in order to operate at a capacity of 3750 tDS/d. This project aims at the total replacement of the lower furnace and some equipment of the upper part of the furnace (Grid, nose, etc).
The challenge of the Retrofit is the very short deadline to execute the disassembly and assembly of the equipment. The deadline is short because production is interrupted to enable the services, which are done almost entirely in 3 shifts 7 days a week.
